"Center for Parasitic Hymenoptera"

The American Entomological Institute frequently receives mail that includes "Center for Parasitic
Hymenoptera" as part of the mailing address; this is also sometimes combined with the address of the
University of Florida. The "Center for Parasitic Hymenoptera" was the name for the proposed University
of Florida research center to be formed about the Townes Hymenoptera collection (Gupta, V.K. 1983.
Contrib American Ent. lnst. 20: 1-14). No agreement was ever reached between the Townes
and the University of Florida, and consequently no such organization exists. The Townes collection is now
part of the American Entomological Institute, which is an independent research organization without ties
to the University of Florida or any agency of the State of Florida.
