 POSITION DESCRIPTION: Assistant Professor, tenure-track, 11-month appointment addressing molecular aspects of insects and mites. The position is available July 1, 1999.

 LOCATION: The Ohio State University/Ohio Agricultural Research & Development Center (OARDC), Wooster, Ohio.

 QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. degree in Entomology or related field with emphasis on molecular biology and biochemistry of arthropods. Must document experience in conducting research and demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Teaching and postdoctoral or equivalent experience is desirable.

 RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate is expected to develop a major research program in molecular entomology emphasizing basic research with potential application to the plant-protection missions of our department and the OARDC. Specific research could relate to areas such as insect-plant interactions, plant vector-pathogen interactions, insect development, insect pathology, and biological control. Collaboration with other researchers is considered an essential element of this position, with numerous intra- and inter-departmental possibilities envisioned. This faculty member will be involved in teaching approximately one course related to molecular entomology on the Columbus campus every second year.

 As part of the expectation of developing a nationally recognized research program, the incumbent will attract extramural funding, participate in national and international scientific meetings, advise graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, instruct undergraduate and graduate students, and publish research results in leading peer-reviewed journals.
