Biological Control

Current research in biological control encompasses basic and applied studies of biology and ecology of parasitic wasps, predaceous arthropods, insect pathogens and their interactions with their hosts and the environment. Research includes the use of natural enemies in conventional and sustainable agricultural systems, as well as in forest and urban environments. Our association with the Bacillus Genetic Stock Center gives our students opportunities to work at the cutting edge of insect pathology. Our new quarantine facility is designed to facilitate importations and screening of arthropod natural enemies for use in biological control programs throughout the Midwest. We have a diverse and active faculty group in this area, who have an outstanding reputation and years of theoretical and practical experience.
