My extension work involves outreach to Ohioans regarding urban pests. I emphasize integrated pest management strategies. I am developing seasonal graphs of insect occurrence in Ohio. I also am developing an outreach effort regarding head lice prevention and control. My research program focuses on subterranean termites and includes both basic and applied approaches. The Midwestern termite fauna has yet to be systematically studied, so we are initiating a comprehensive termite survey throughout Ohio, with associated field studies of seasonal foraging activity and swarming behavior. I am conducting research on baits and soil termiticides. Ongoing projects in the Grand Canyon of Arizona, as well as in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, currently focus on surveys of the termite fauna, with descriptions of new species. Most of my non-work activities revolve around my two little boys. Personal interests include hiking, camping, and white-water canoeing/rafting. Graduate Student Advisee: * Kyle K.
