Current Research: The evolution of bioluminescent signaling in the beetle family Lampyridae (fireflies).

Research Interests: Evolution of signaling systems, fireflies, bioluminescence, sexual selection, insect systematics (especially the beetle superfamily Elateroidea), animal communication, mimicry systems, tropical biology, and phylogenetic theory.

Personal Interests: Fencing, cycling, fly fishing, canoeing, kayaking, woodworking, boatbuilding, wine tasting, and raising a lop-eared rabbit named "Otis."
