Thanks to hummingbirds, certain flowering plants are no longer accessible as food sources for such notable organisms as wasps, bees, ants, flies, butterflies, moths, certain beetles, and certain bats. Angiosperms associated with hummingbirds have the following modifications that make them inaccessible to other pollinators:

  1. Bright colors (ex: red and yellow): Difficult for most insects (except butterflies) to find.
  2. No fragrance: Difficult for most insects and bats to find.
  3. Long tubed flowers: Making it difficult for most organisms (except certain butterflies and moths) to obtain nectar.
