Instructions for the Hymenoptera Name Server

From this opening page there are three mechanisms for navigating and finding the information available for the name of a taxon within the order Hymenoptera:

  1. Enter a name within the text field at the top of the page. This text field does not support wild cards and the name entered must exactly match a name in the database. It is not, however, case sensitive. To test it, try entering the name "Telenomus."
  2. Select a letter of the alphabet from the radio buttons in the middle of the page, then choose one of the three taxonomic levels within which you wish to limit the search. If not taxonomic category is selected, then all the family- and genus-group names beginning with that letter will be retrieved. After the requested list is retrieved, you may select one for further information.
  3. Find the desired name by "walking" through the taxonomic hierarchy. The scrolling list begins with superfamilies and unplaced taxa within the Hymenoptera. By selecting a name and pressing submit, the list of taxa contained within that group will be retrieved.
