Geographic Distribution
We have recorded data from 7,859 specimens from 100 collections. These come from 2,310 distinct localities in 18 countries. We still have no specimens recorded from El Salvador, Guyana, or Suriname : all countries in which we suspect Pelecinus to occur. Where we are able to find, with a fair degree of accuracy, the latitude and longitude of the collecting locality, we have mapped them below.
If you have specimens that you would like included, please send an e-mail message:
Clicking within one of the 15 degree grid cells will retrieve a close-up of that area. Clicking on any circle within the close-up image will trigger a real-time query of the database, and the creation of a new html page reporting the names of the localities within 30 minutes of the circle selected. The list of localities ultimately leads to the data associated with individual specimens. The yellow circles refer to county coordinates, while the red ones refer to more specific collecting localities, and are relatively more precise.
